Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, 8.0 and 10.1 Android Tablets Now on Sale

By Rachel Cericola

A few weeks back, Samsung Electronics America leaked info on a new line of Galaxy Tab 3 tablets. Thankfully, we didn't have too much of a wait. Samsung says that the WiFi-enabled Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 are all available for purchase now.

Just last year, our own Chris Chiarella was beaming over the capabilities of the Galaxy Tab 2. (Check out his Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Review and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Review for more information.) However, this one has several interesting enhancements.

One of the most notable features of the Galaxy Tab 3 is the built-in IR blaster, which can turn that tablet into a universal remote. Each tablet also has access to Samsung's WatchON service, which can recommend TV shows and on-demand content, as well as provide a second-screen experience for TV watchers.

As far as specifics, the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is the entry-level model, priced at $199. It has the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system, a 7-inch screen with a 1024-by-600 resolution, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera. The tablet also comes with 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card.

The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 bumps the tablet up to 8 inches, with a 1280-by-800 image, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and a 1.3-megapixel camera for the front and 5 megapixels for the back. Available for $299, this option doubles the storage to 16GB, with that same microSD slot offering a little extra. Also, the 8.0 is the only one of the three that has a Multi-Window functionality for mulitasking several apps simulataneously.

Last in the line is the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. Priced at $399, this 10.1-incher has a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 16GB of memory, a 1280-by-800 display, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3-mega-pixel rear-facing camera.

Each Galaxy Tab 3 option comes packing pre-loaded content and Galaxy Perks. Besides the content, you can also score a $10 voucher for the Google Play Store, a year's worth of access to the Boingo WiFi network, three months of Hulu Plus, and two years of Dropbox.

All three tablets also have Group Play for sharing content with up to eight compatible devices and SAFE (Samsung for Enterprise) protection for photos, email and contacts. It should also be noted that this trio includes physical home and capacitive buttons, all packed into a slim design that's available in white and a gold brown color.
