Runco Gets Colorful with Customizable 3D-Ready Vistage Series Plasmas

By Greg Robinson

Luxury display manufacturer Runco is adding a dash of color - or wood, or metal, or leather - to its plasma flat panel lineup with the introduction of the customizable new Vistage Series. These 3D-ready flat panels boast an ultra-thin depth of only 1.7 inches (not including the base) and offer a host of fashionable rear coverings for table-top installations.

The Vistage Series will initially be comprised of three models: the 50-inch V-50HD, the 58-inch V-58HD and the 63-inch V-63HD. Customers looking to venture into the third dimension with one of these new displays will be happy to hear that Runco will be offering Active 3D support on all three models utilizing an optional 3DimensionTM processor, emitter, and glasses kit. These kits have been uniquely designed specifically for the Vistage Series and will be available in early 2011.

With a screen surface constructed of solid glass, Runco claims improved optical performance due to the lack of surface uniformity issues common to the acrylic or plastic surfaces used on most flat panels. The Vistage Series also employs Runco's Emissive Cell StructureTM which aims to deliver exceptional brightness and wide viewing angles. As Runco puts it:  "Using a proprietary algorithm, each sub-pixel is individually-modulated to turn on or off based on the content being played, which creates exceptional contrast and black levels previously unachieved in the industry."

A notable curiosity surrounding the new Vistage Series is its breadth of unique aesthetic options, namely a "veil" which can be attached to the rear of the display. This rigid, convex structure provides an attractive alternative to the wires and inputs typically visible back there. As the company calls them, Runco's FinishPaletteTM options include wood, metal, leather, hand-painted murals, and NCAA team logos to name but a few.

The V-50HD, V-58HD and V-63HD will have MSRPs of $5,995, $7,995, $9,495 respectively and will be available this December.

Unlike most flat panels, the new Vistage flat panels look just as intriguing from the rear.
