Philips Raises the Soundbar with CCS5123 Home Cinema Speaker

By Peter Suciu

There are a lot of speakers out there to pair with iOS devices. Philips has decided to do something a little different.

At this week's Consumer Electronics Show, Philips introduced the first Android streaming soundbar, the Philips Soundbar Home Cinema Speaker CCS5123. According to the company, this is the "answer to the demands of modern living," offering the simplicity of control from an Android device all while allowing users to stream movies and other content from Android devices, including a tablet, smartphone or PC to the speaker, as well as the TV.

The content can be shared via any DLNA-enabled device with Philips' SimplyShare and built-in Wi-Fi functionality. Users can also add in a portable hard drive or thumb drive and stream content from the speaker's USB port.

This speaker may be thin and flat, but the sound certainly isn't.

For the budget minded, Philips also introduced two additional sound-bars, the ultra-thin CSS2113 and CSS2123. Both are just 30 inches in width and connect to a TV via a single cable. Each one also features Philips' FullSound and DoubleBass technology, as well as Music iLink, which allows easy switching between music and movies. The CSS2113 will be available in white, while the CSS2123 will be available in black. Both will arrive in stores in April for $129.99.
