Paradigm Packs AirPlay into Aera Speaker System

By Rachel Cericola

Paradigm wants you to take one of the company's awesome audio options on the go. Well, it wouldn't be too convenient to lug around a floorstanding speaker or one of their in-walls, so Paradigm decided to release the Aera AirPlay Speaker System.

As you could probably tell by the product's title, this newly announced speaker includes support for Apple AirPlay. That basically means that you can stream music to the speaker from any networked iPod, iPhone, iPad, PC or Mac.

No complicated installation or setup processes are necessary; just plug the Aera in and you're ready to rock. Perfect for the kitchen, bedroom, home office or any other room, the Aera can work alone or be daisy-chained for wireless, multi-room sound.

Inside, the Aera has two 1-inch soft-balanced aluminum dome tweeters with neodymium motor structures and two 4-inch composite cone woofers with ceramic/ferrite magnets. Other features include a top-loading 30-pin connector, a USB input, and a 3.5-mm auxiliary input.

"Take what you know about today's wireless portable audio systems and throw it out the window. AERA is different, it's a Paradigm product," said Mark Aling, Paradigm's senior director of marketing. "It's easy to use, requires no installation, and the only setup requirement is a quick connection to a Wi-Fi network. Add the award-winning sound of Paradigm, and your digital media playback has just jumped up several notches in quality."

Paradigm will start selling the Aera via select dealers and on the Paradigm Shift website in early October. When it ships, it will come in a black finish with a $599 MSRP.
