Panasonic Wins International 3D Society Award

By Rachel Cericola

Panasonic has quite a resume. Now, the company is adding Lumiere Wheatstone Award winner to that lengthy list.

The International 3D Society just announced plans to award Panasonic with its 2010 Lumiere Wheatstone Award. Aside from having the Full HD 3D plasma home entertainment system, Panasonic is also getting props for the Advanced Authoring Center within Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory as well as the company's work with 3D Blu-ray technology.

The Wheatstone Award is named for Charles Wheatstone, the man who invented the Stereoscope in 1838.

"For serving as James Cameron's technology partner for Avatar, to first developing Full HD 3D plasma home entertainment in 2008, to establishing the Advanced Authoring Center within Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory for collaboration with the industry on development of 3D Blu-ray in 2009, Panasonic has been a vital partner for 3D advocates," said Jim Chabin, the International 3D Society's president. "The Wheatstone award is the Society's opportunity to recognize that effort."
