Optoma Promises Brighter, Better HD with HD142x Projector

By Rachel Cericola

For over 2 years, Optoma has been making home theater affordable and awesome, thanks to the HD141x projector. Now the company wants to give you something even better. Optoma just launched the HD142x 1080p home theater projector.

This updated model boasts better color and contrast than its predecessor, as well as an improved lamp life. However, it packs all of those goodies (and more) into a smaller form factor.

The HD142x also adds in an sRGB color mode for PC and Mac content. This will complement the Reference Mode, which delivers accurate Rec.709 HDTV broadcast spec colors. That means this model can pretty much handle whatever content you want to run through it.

Other new perks include an increase in contrast ratio to 23,000:1 and an improved lamp life to deliver up to 8,000 hours of use. There's even a new optical lens for displaying crisper images. Other features include 3,000 lumens of brightness, 3D playback, MHL support, two HDMI 1.4a inputs, and a 10-watt internal speaker for use almost anywhere.

"As a leader in the consumer projection space, Optoma is focused on educating more consumers on the advantage of projectors over flat-screen TVs -- it's simply too good of a value proposition to pass up today," said Brian Soto, head of product management at Optoma Technology. "With the Optoma HD141x, we saw increased adoption of projection because we delivered an incredible high-definition entertainment experience -- and with the HD142x, we've improved upon that to really hit home the message -- projectors provide the best home entertainment and home theater experience, inch for inch."

Optoma has started taking pre-orders for the HD142x, with plans to start shipping on July 18, 2016. The new model is listed with an estimated street price of $579.
