Need Fathers Day Gift Ideas? These Sale-Priced Blu-ray Discs and DVDs Make Great Gifts

By Rachel Cericola

Need Fathers Day gift ideas this year?  If your old pop is anything like ours, he isn't an easy guy to shop for. Dad likes his clothes just right, has limited hobbies, and his car has been off limits since the day I got my license. If there's one thing that most dads can appreciate, it's a good deal -- and if it's a good deal on a good movie, that's a huge bonus.  But this time Dad doesn't even need to know how good the deal is, because you're the one who gets the deal, and Dad gets a great movie or favorite TV series on Blu-ray Disc or DVD.  Win, win!

Amazon is making your Fathers Day gift-giving a breeze this year, offering up Blu-ray and DVD titles at a huge discount. It's one big happy Father's Day sale from now through June 20, 2011. Take a peek at everything that you can snag, at up to 60 percent off (or more):

If you really want to wow dad, get him the Disney WOW: World of Wonder Blu-ray for just $20.49. Then he can spend the rest of his Fathers Day calibrating the family HDTV (or you can do it for him, if you are into that).  And who doesn't love a finely tuned high-definition big-screen TV?  Other new Blu-ray releases on sale include The King's Speech for $22.49, The Fighter for $20.99, Drive Angry for $18.99, and The Walking Dead: Season One for $23.99. If he's into 3D, you can also score the newly released made-for-IMAX 3D title, The Ultimate Wave: Tahiti Blu-ray 3D, for just $11.99.  A great demo for your big-screen TV (after your dad calibrates it, of course!).

For the adventurous dad who loves his Blu-ray Discs, Amazon has Sherlock Holmes, 300 and Full Metal Jacket for $9.99 each, as well as the entire Bourne Trilogy for just $36.99. Also, X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine are all just $7.99 each, while supplies last.

If you've inherited dad's "thrift," you can still get him a great gift. Blu-ray titles available for under $10 include Caddyshack, Blazing Saddles, and Dumb and Dumber for $9.49 each, while Office Space and Unforgiven are $8.99 each, and the extremely underrated Will Ferrell film Stranger Than Fiction can be had for just $6.99. Also noteworthy are 2001: A Space Odyssey ($9.99) and The Departed ($9.29). Do some of your own Blu-ray bargain hunting and check out all of the Blu-rays on sale on Amazon:

And remember, if your dad falls asleep watching your newly purchased movie or TV show on Blu-ray Disc, it doesn't mean he didn't like it (sometimes it's tiring being a dad!).

Check the above links to see what deals can be had, but remember that the sale is over on June 20, 2011 or while supplies last of each title. If you act quickly, you can take advantage of free Super Saver Shipping, and still have your gift get to dear old dad in time for the big day.

Please note: all deals posted on Big Picture Big Sound are current as of the posting date and time. These deals are frequently time- or stock-limited and generally do not last. Final pricing and stock are determined by the individual deal provider, not by Big Picture Big Sound so you will need to click through on the offer link to see if it is still available.
