Monster Gets into Whole Home Audio with Soundstage Wireless Speakers

By Rachel Cericola

Years ago, it was hard to believe that Monster would make it in the headphone market. Then, they debuted (and completely dominated) with Beats. But can the same company take on Sonos?

It looks like they're going to give it a good try. The company just introduced Monster SoundStage, a new collection of wireless music products. The new lineup will launch with three different speakers: the S1, the S2 and the S3. Each one features support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as the company's own Pure Monster Sound audio technology.

Having that dual-band wireless technology allows users to enjoy music anywhere in the house -- when the device is paired with Monster's free SoundStage app, of course. That same app can stream both stored music and web-based services such as Spotify, Rhapsody, Napster, Soma.FM, and more. It also offers speaker control, options for playlists, an easy setup process, and much more.

Also worth mentioning is that even though each SoundStage speaker is compact, all three pack in software algorithms to make the soundstage larger. (Hence, the product name.) It also has newly designed front drivers, rear-firing bass drivers, a leather top, and a slim overall design.

Another perk is the inclusion of Qualcomm AllPlay. This is what allows users to stream music to multiple SoundStage speakers to create a "party mode," as well as stream multiple songs to multiple speakers. Other features include a fiber optic digital (TOSLINK) output for use with a TV, a USB port, a 3.5mm input, and more.

"We chose the name 'SoundStage' because that is exactly what it does -- it creates an ideal soundstage for your music, whether you're streaming from your phone to the single speaker in a room or to multiple rooms around the house, the SoundStage provides incredible sound with plug and play simplicity," said Monster's Noel Lee. "The SoundStage system is quite simply whole home wireless home audio re-defined. You can now enjoy the sound of live music in your home, without any wires, fuss or setup anxiety. Best of all, SoundStage is so simple to set up and use that nothing gets between you and the music you love!"

Monster will start selling the S1, the S2 and the S3 on October 25, 2014. The company has priced the speakers at $199.95, $299.95 and $399.95, respectively.
