Mitsubishi Shines with HC9000 Diamond 3D Home Theater Projector

By Greg Robinson

Using this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) as a backdrop, Mitsubishi has given us a look at their latest and greatest home theater projector, the HC9000 Diamond 3D. Using an SXRD liquid crystal optical engine, this new 3D-capable projector is capable of 1080p high definition resolution with a full on/full off contrast ratio of up to 120,000:1.

The HC9000 features a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth transitions and its dynamic iris constantly adjusts lens aperture and light output on a scene-by-scene basis. Fan noise is kept to an absolute minimum, with an operational noise level of only 19 dBa. And when running in conservation mode, Mitsubishi claims a 4,000-hours bulb life, even going so far as to offer a one year limited warranty on the bulb itself.

Wayne Kozuki, product manager in Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America's Presentation Products Division, had to this to say about all the 3D buzz surrounding this year's CES: "We've heard that this is ‘the year of 3D.' But Mitsubishi has been selling 3D-ready TVs since 2007, so it's the home entertainment industry that is finally catching up to us."

To accommodate source devices such as Blu-ray 3D players and satellite television receivers, the HC9000 features a pair of HDMI 1.4 inputs, plus an RS232 port for remote operation and system automation. Lens shift is a generous 100% on the vertical axis and 45% horizontally. Rounding out the feature set for maximum installation flexibility, the HC9000 also features a 1.8x powered zoom lens.

The HC9000 will be available in the first quarter of this year, but pricing is still being determined.
