MartinLogan, Paradigm and Anthem Jump on DTS Play-Fi Bandwagon for Wireless Whole Home Audio

By Rachel Cericola

It used to be that the words "wireless" and "high-end" were complete opposites. However, more manufacturers are cutting the cord, in favor of convenience. Now, fans of high-end audio will soon get a few wireless audio options from MartinLogan, Paradigm and Anthem.

DTS has just announced a partnership with MartinLogan and Paradigm. The new deal will put DTS' Play-Fi technology into new premium speakers and electronics from each brand.

Play-Fi is a wireless streaming technology that uses Wi-Fi to put uncompromised wireless audio from your smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktop PCs into any room in the house. Besides Play-Fi-enabled products, you'll also need the Play-Fi app to set up, link and control the music around your house. It works with whatever music you have stored on your portable, as well as web-based streaming services.

The hook on Play-Fi is that it promises wireless high-quality "lossless" audio in any room, with no lag. Users can put the same music into multiple zones or stream different music to different rooms from the same device. There's also the option for multiple users to stream from different smartphones, tablets or PCs that incorporate the Play-Fi drivers.

DTS also offers Play-Fi apps for Android, iOS and Kindle Fire, which include access to over 20,000 radio stations, podcasts, local music, media servers, and select cloud-based music services.

Another nifty perk is that Play-Fi products play nicely together -- even ones made by different manufacturers. So you can mix and match a new pair of Play-Fi-enabled Paradigm speakers with any existing Play-Fi devices at home.

"Music lovers today want to experience their favorite music anywhere in the home with lossless, high-fidelity sound quality," said Zoltan Balla, Paradigm's brand manager. "We chose to support DTS' Play-Fi technology because it's the most mature and flexible solution on the market today, enabling the premium audio experience our customers expect from us."

Of course, there's no word on exactly what products are coming and when, but DTS says that we can expect to see the first Play-Fi-enabled products from each brand sometime in 2015.
