Mark Levinson № 519 Player Offers Wired & Wireless High-Res Audio

By Rachel Cericola

Harman's Mark Levinson brand is very well known in high-end audio circles. However, the company's latest may make its way into a lot more homes -- or at least a lot more areas of the home.

That's because the Mark Levinson № 519 Audio Player features both wired and wireless connectivity options. This component is designed to be the heart of high-performance audio systems and to accommodate every digital audio format out there.

Inside, the № 519 Audio Player has an integrated high-resolution digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that receives its nine digital inputs, including USB asynchronous streaming and mass storage, Gigabit Ethernet, Balanced, Optical, and Coaxial, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth wireless featuring aptX technology. It's also important to note that the DAC has an ESS Sabre32 Reference converter.

As you would imagine with Mark Levinson, the № 519 Audio Player offers high-resolution digital decoding up to 24-bit, 192kHz from PCM and double-speed DSD.

If you're wondering what to listen to, know that the № 519 Audio Player features access to Spotify Connect, Tidal, QOBUZ, Deezer, Rhapsody, and Napster, as well as a large library of web radio stations and podcasts. It even has an integrated slot-loading CD player.

Other features include an embedded Linux computer, a headphone output, integrated digital volume control, and Harman's Clari-Fi music restoration technology. Of course, it also has a proprietary Mark Levinson discrete, direct coupled, fully balanced, dual-monaural signal path with the aforementioned balanced and single-ended analog outputs, balanced, optical and coaxial digital outputs, and headphone outputs integrated into the front panel.

Featuring a 6000-series aluminum housing in black with silver trim, the № 519 does have options for manual control. You can also use the included remote or one of Harman's apps for iOS and Android devices.

"We created the Mark Levinson № 519 to be nothing less than the optimal digital music playback component for the way today's listeners access their music," said Jim Garrett, director of marketing and product management for Harman. "The № 519 lets music lovers enjoy music from nearly any source experience, whether it's the latest high-resolution streaming audio format, their CD collection, or even from their mobile devices."

Designed and handcrafted in the USA, the Mark Levinson № 519 Audio Player will be available sometime in July 2016. Pricing has yet to be announced.
