Marantz Packs Streaming and Digital Music into M-CR611 Network CD Receiver

By Rachel Cericola

Marantz is making beautiful music once again -- or at least making plans for a new musical component. Instead of adding another home theater receiver, the company is turning a spotlight on the M-CR611 Network CD Receiver.

The upcoming component is an all-in-one, wireless, connected music system. It combines Marantz quality with streaming and digital media features into an easy-to-use mini system.

Those streaming perks include access to Spotify Connect, SiriusXM and Pandora right through the component, all without the need for different add-ons. (Just know that a subscription and/or monthly fees may apply.) If you don't feel like paying for another service, there are plenty of freebies through web radio. Of course, the M-CR611 can also play all of your stored music, whether those files are located on a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device or a computer. As long as the tracks are somewhere on your home network, this system will find them, thanks to built-in WiFi, Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay.

Also important to note is that this small but mighty machine can handle 192KHz/24-bit high-resolution digital audio formats. That lineup includes everything from ALAC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF and DSD files to CDs, as well as FM/AM radio.

Boasting 2x60 watts power output, the M-CR611 features a "one-push" WiFi option for easy connectivity, as well as the NFC function. For those times when you need to be tethered to an external source, it also has front and rear USB ports and two digital inputs. Other features include a bi-amping option and the ability to control the device with your favorite smartphone or tablet, using the Marantz Hi-Fi Remote app for iOS and Android devices.

Marantz will start shipping the M-CR611 Network CD Receiver in August, with an MSRP of $699.
