Logitech Pop Home Switch Makes Smart Home Control Simple; Ships This Month

By Rachel Cericola

The company behind the Harmony lineup is getting ready to release two new smart home devices -- and no, they aren't remotes. Logitech just announced the Logitech Pop Home Switch Starter Pack and the Pop Add-On Home Switch, a pair of options that can put simple smart home control at your fingertips.

The Logitech Pop Home Switch is a little button that's compatible with a variety of different lighting and smart home products. That lineup includes options from LIFX, Phillips Hue, Lutron, INSTEON, and others, so you can easily control lighting, door locks, blinds, and more.

Once the Logitech Pop Home Switch is set up, it allows you to control devices with a simple push. No smartphone is needed! Users can even mix and match product controls on an individual switch.

To set up the Logitech Pop Home Switch, you will need a smartphone and the Pop app, which is free for iOS and Android devices. The app can scan your Wi-Fi to find any compatible products on the network. Then, you can assign those found items to certain switches or combine multiple products into a single trigger using "Recipes" through the app. That means, you can set the switch to dim lights and fire up music, all with one push.

According to Logitech, each switch can trigger three actions using different presses; a single press, a double press, and a long press. Having those different options means that you can set one switch to turn products on and off, as well as adjust lighting scenes and access your favorite Sonos music stations.

Of course, Logitech has also made it possible to pair the Pop Home Switch with a Logitech Harmony hub-based remote. This allows users to access even more devices, as well as use the Pop Home Switch to access one-touch Harmony Activities, such as "Watch TV" or "Listen to Music."

"Sometimes you just want to set the mood for movie night without opening multiple apps to turn down the lights, turn on the TV and the soundbar, and draw the blinds," said Renee Niemi, head of the smart home business at Logitech. "With Pop, you can do all that with a press of the switch. It makes the smart home simple and accessible for everyone -- not just the person with the smartphone."

Look for the Logitech Pop Home Switch Starter Pack and the Logitech Pop Add-on Home Switch to start selling this month. The Pop Home Switch Starter Pack has an MSRP of $99.99, with the Pop Add-On Home Switch priced at $39.99. The iOS and Android apps will also be available in the coming weeks.
