LG 55LHX and LH85 LCD HDTVs Go Wireless with HD

By Chris Chiarella

LG Electronics continues to flaunt their first-ever series of wireless LCD HDTVs, including an LED-lit model, this week at CEDIA Expo. The 55-inch class Slim Wireless LED-Backlight HDTV (model 55LHX) is LG's flagship model, impressively slim at less than an inch at its thinnest point. It's THX Display-certified, an achievement that actually has its roots as far back as the initial product design phase, then strictly held to THX standards and rigorously tested. The backlighting is provided by a full array of LEDs with local dimming, for deeper blacks, a wide color gamut and a claimed 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

The 55LHX also offers TruMotion 240Hz technology motion smoothing and the ISFccc ten-point calibration option on both the 55LHX and the more affordable LH85 Series, to tweak the display for absolute optimum performance. In the "LG Expert Mode," an Imaging Science Foundation-certified technician can use professional equipment to calibrate the HDTV, taking into account unique variables such as room lighting.

LG hawked their latest and greatest flat-panels to the CEDIA crowd in Atlanta.

But the wireless aspects of the 55LHX and the more affordable LH85 Series make them genuine standouts, granting consumers and installers the freedom to place the TV itself just about anywhere, with the necessary "media box" sending a strong, uncompressed 1080p signal from across the room, up to 30 feet away. All source components can be fed into this media box, meaning that the bulk of the gear can be stored/hidden wherever it's convenient. Both the 55LHX and the LH85 Series are Energy Star 3.0 compliant.

The 55LHX will be available, well, "soon," at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $4,799. The LH85 Series is available now in 55- and 47-inch class screen sizes at $3,199 and $2,399 respectively.
