LG Snags 10 CES 2013 Innovations Awards

No one can accuse LG Electronics of not being an innovator -- at least not this year. The company just got serious accolades for a slew of its new products, scoring a total of 10 mentions from the CES 2013 Innovations Awards commitee.

Sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association, the CES Innovations Awards are picked by a panel of judges based on certain criteria. Some of the things that the judges look at include the product's user value, aesthetics, innovative design, quality and contributions to quality of life.

LG was recognized as an honoree in a total of six categories: Video Displays, Portable Media Players and Accessories, Integrated Home Systems and Multi-Room Audio/Video, Home Theater Speakers, Home Appliances and Wireless Handsets.

The company also scored the prestigious "Best of Innovations" honor in the Video Display category, for its new 84-inch Ultra-High-Definition TV. The TV has been making the rounds at tradeshows over the past year, showing off 8 million pixels and four times the resolution (3840x2160) of any existing HDTV. Other features include has LG's Triple XD Engine and the Resolution Upscaler Plus. The latter promises to upscale video from a variety of srouces, including the web.

"Technology innovation and design are the foundation of our company, and we are honored that CEA has awarded LG the 'Best of Innovations' award for the fifth year in a row, recognizing our ongoing commitment to bringing the best user experience to market each year," said Wayne Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics USA. "This year's host of honored products, from energy-efficient home appliances to quad-core smartphones and stylish smart electronics, represent a diverse portfolio of products that are designed to improve consumers' lives."

Also notable was the fact that LG was picked as an honoree in the Wireless Handset category for its LG Optimus G for AT&T. The company was also recognized in the Home Appliance field for products with Smart ThinQ technology, which helps consumers save time and money using web-connected devices.

According to LG, the company has received more than 130 CES Innovations Awards since 2004.
