LG Packs Bluetooth and WiFi into 3 Compact Minibeam Projectors

By Rachel Cericola

Big things absolutely come in small packages. LG Electronics seems to be making that a mantra with its latest collection of Minibeam projectors.

The company just announced plans to launch three new projectors for the LG Minibeam series. The PH550, the PW1000, and the PW1500 are designed to deliver a big picture almost anywhere -- and with almost any source. That's because all three models feature both Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, which means you can pair any one of them with your smartphone, tablet, or computer for a little big-screen entertainment on the fly.

All three also have a slimmer, one-hand grip design, which makes it easy to transport each projector from room to room or even from house to house.

The PH550 has what LG calls "triple wire-free connectivity." That basically means it doesn't need any wires at all -- zero. It has a rechargeable internal battery that allows you to unplug for up to 2.5 hours of use. Other perks include the WiFi mirroring-enabled Screen Share feature and 550 lumens of brightness.

With 1,500 lumens, the PW1500 boasts the brightest image of this lot and the entire existing LG Minibeam series, while the PW1000 packs in 1,000 lumens.

According to LG, all three projectors will debut at CES, with actual products to follow sometime in the first quarter of 2016.

"With more variety than ever before, LG Minibeam projectors offer enhanced portability with wireless connectivity for an enjoyable viewing experience anytime, anywhere," said Brian Kwon, president and CEO at LG's Home Entertainment Company. "We look forward to officially unveiling the newest LG Minibeam series at CES 2016."

If you're looking for something now, LG has already started shipping the PF1000U Ultra Short Throw LED Home Theater Projector. Weighing in at less than 4.85 pounds, this model features a 1920 x 1080 resolution, brightness up to 1,000 lumens, and the ability to project 100 inches when placed just 15 inches from the wall or screen. It's selling now, priced at $1,299.99.
