LG Introduces 7 4K Ultra HD OLED TVs at CES 2015

By Rachel Cericola

For 2015, LG Electronics is planning to be flexible with its 4K OLED TV lineup -- literally. The company's latest 4K OLED TVs will include flexible, curved and flat models ranging from 55 to 77 inches in size.

At the 2015 International CES, the company debuted seven different new 4K OLED TVs. In case you haven't been following, the hook on OLED TV is that it promises a picture that's better than plasma, but in a package that's thinner than LED. And these also include that 4K bonus! That picture is enhanced via LG's own WRGB technology, which adds in a white sub-pixel for more lifelike colors. Each model also has the company's Optimized True Color feature to regulate color stability, regardless of the on-screen content.

Another perk is that each new OLED TV boasts a maximum response time of 0.001ms, which should make these TVs about 1,000 times faster than a conventional LCD flat panel. Other features include wide viewing angles, audio via a partnership with Harman/Kardon, and a new design that embodies LG's "Art Slim" philosophy. What that philosophy basically means is that each of these sets has a transparent stand that almost makes it look like the TV is floating. The end result promises to be an immersive viewing experience, without all of the clutter around the screen.

Also worth noting is that each of these new 4K OLED TVs will include webOS 2.0. LG's recently announced Smart TV platform promises an easier, simpler user experience, as well as new content and other features. For instance, users can expect to experience a reduced boot time, as well as a new Launcher Bar, which is designed to make it easier to access favorite content.

"LG is driving innovation by making this superb TV technology available to more consumers," said In-kyu Lee, senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. "LG believes this is where the future of television is headed and we're going to continue developing and expanding our OLED offerings until it becomes a viable option for all consumers."

LG's seven OLED TVs for 2015 will include the 77-inch Flexible 4K OLED TV (Model 77EG9900), the 65-inch Floating Art Slim CURVED 4K OLED TV (Model 65EG9600), and the 55-inch Floating Art Slim Flat 4K OLED TV (Model 55EF9500), as well as the 77-inch Art Slim CURVED 4K OLED TV (Model 77EG9700), the 55-inch Floating Art Slim CURVED 4K OLED TV (Model 55EG9600), the 65-inch Art Slim Flat 4K OLED TV (Model 65EF9800), and the 65-inch Floating Art Slim Flat 4K OLED TV (Model 65EF9500). There's currently no word on pricing or availability for each model.
