LG Celebrates March Madness with 4K Ultra HD OLED TV Deals

By Rachel Cericola

March Madness is upon us. You may have your game face ready, but do you have the type of home theater equipment that will make you feel like you're sitting courtside? If not, you may want to take a peek at one of these deals from LG Electronics.

The company is celebrating March Madness and its NCAA Corporate Partnership by offering a series of 4K Ultra HD OLED TV bundles -- all at a discount. From now through April, you can choose between four different 4K OLED TVs (and one 1080p OLED TV), and LG will even throw in a little freebie with every purchase.

Of course, scoring an OLED TV for this event is a nice bonus. After all, OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) technology uses self-lighting pixels that can switch on and off automatically. This can create an image with brighter colors and deeper black levels, so you can see more details on the court and even in the stands.

The first two sets featured in this sports-themed promotion are the LG 65EG9600 Curved OLED 4K Smart TV and the LG 65EF9500 Flat 4K OLED Smart TV. Both sets typically sell for $5,999, but LG is slashing those prices by $1,000. Besides paying just $4,999 for either TV, the company is adding in the option to get a free 43-inch 43UF6400 4K Smart LED TV, the LG LAS855M 4.1-channel Music Flow Wireless Curved Soundbar, the LG LAS851M Music Flow Wireless Soundbar with a Wireless Subwoofer, or a $300 Amazon gift card.

Both the 65EG9600 and the 65EF9500 can deliver eye-popping images, thanks to LG's 4-Color Pixel technology. This perk puts a white sub-pixel into the usual red/green/blue mix. Each TV also has 4K upscaler, 3D support, and harman/kardon sound. These sets are also "Netflix Recommended TV" options, but offer other web-based services through LG's webOS 2.0 Smart TV platform. The big difference between the two TVs is that the 65EG9600 is a curved TV, while the 65EF9500 is flat. Also worth noting is that the 65EG9600 was crowned the winner of last year's 11th Annual Value Electronics TV Shootout.

For something slightly smaller (and less expensive), LG is offering both of the above TVs in 55-inch screen sizes as well. Both the LG 55EG9600 Curved OLED 4K Smart TV and the LG 55EF9500 Flat 4K OLED Smart TV typically sell for $3,999, but will get the same $1,000 discount during this promotion. LG is also packaging up freebies with each of these purchases. You can choose between the LG 42-inch 42LF5600 1080p HDTV, the 43-inch 43LF5400 1080p HDTV, the LAS551H 2.1-channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer, the LAS454B 2.1-channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer, the SH5B/SH4 Soundbar, or a $200 Amazon gift card with every purchase.

The last model featured in this promotion is the LG 55-inch 55EG9100 Curved 1080p OLED Smart TV. This is the only 1080p TV being discounted, but with a bundle option. It boasts a full 1080p HD image, a curved screen, and 3D support. It even has built-in WiFi and webOS 2.0 Smart TV features.

The 55EG8100 is typically listed for $2,499, but can be had for $1,999 right now (so you save $500). Also know that when making your purchase, you can choose between a free LAS454B 2.1-channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer, the SH5B/SH4 Soundbar, or a $100 Amazon gift card.

When buying one of the above TVs, make sure you place the entire bundle in your shopping cart. Otherwise, you may miss out on that freebie. Also know that Amazon offers the option for free Super Saver shipping (or two-day shipping for Prime subscribers). Just make sure you are buying directly from Amazon -- and you're going to want to do that soon before this March Madness promotion ends or the retailer runs out of stock!
