KEF Shows Off X300A Wireless Speaker and V300 Powered TV Speakers at CEDIA

By Rachel Cericola

The trend of big sound in a small package continues! This time, we're getting a pair of new compact audio options from KEF. The company is out at this week's CEDIA Expo in Denver, Colorado, showing off two new options that can put audiophile quality into smaller spaces.

If the X300A Wireless sounds a little familiar, it's because KEF has another product known as the X300A. The difference between the two is that wireless connectivity. This new version packs in DLNA and AirPlay features, so you can stream audio to the speakers from any iOS or Android device. That would probably be really helpful, since these speakers are designed to sit on your desktop -- where there isn't typically a lot of space for source equipment.

Each of the X300A Wireless speakers has KEF's Uni-Q drivers, four dedicated amplifiers (that's two per speaker!), two discrete DACs, and a 96kHz/24-bit distortion-free digital USB connection in wired mode. KEF's free app offers an extra way to control volume and speaker power, as well as a tutorial on how to set the system up properly. Other features include an EQ switch and a 3.5mm input.

KEF's X300A Wireless includes support for both DLNA and Apple's AirPlay.

Available in gunmetal and linear white finishes, the X300A Wireless has an MSRP of $999 per pair.

If you want something slightly larger, the V300 Digital TV Sound System is designed to work with your HDTV. However, this isn't another soundbar option. This is actually a pair of speakers, which can connect to your TV with just one HDMI 1.4 cable. The speaker includes two 4.5-inch bass drivers and a 1-inch vented aluminum tweeter with KEF's "tangerine" waveguide. It also comes with a Class-D amplifier, which has on-board EQ housed in a separate activation module that can be mounted behind the TV. Other features include a frequency response of 80Hz to 30kHz, a maximum peak SPL of 103dB, HDMI and SPDIF optical digital inputs, and a subwoofer jack (on the amp).

KEF is shipping the V300 now, with a pair of desk stands and an MSRP of $899.99.
