JVC Starts Shipping 4K D-ILA Home Theater Projectors

By Rachel Cericola

Back in September, JVC had eyes popping at September's CEDIA Expo, with the promise of new 4K home theater projectors. The company just made the announcement that we've all been waiting for, that they're now shipping those models.

There's a total of seven new projectors. The Procision Series DLA-X90R, DLA-X70R and DLA-X30 are being marketed by JVC's Consumer Electronics Group, with the Reference Series DLA-RS65, DLA-RS55, DLA-RS4800 and DLA-RS45 falling under the JVC Professional Products Company's umbrella.

The top four (DLA-X90R, DLA-X70R, DLA-RS65 and DLA-RS55) are THX 3D certified, as well as the ones that feature 4K e-Shift technology, which promises to upconvert and scale HD images to a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution -- or four times the resolution of full 1080p HD. Other features include ISF certification, an upgraded optical engine, ISF and THX Calibration, the 7-Axis Color Management System, and three Xenon lamp color modes.

All seven new projectors feature three 0.7-inch 1920 x 1080 D-ILA devices and are designed around JVC's third-generation D-ILA High Dynamic Range optical engine. New improvements include a 2D-to-3D converter with optional user adjustments; a Cross Talk Canceller; JVC's 3D anamorphic feature; an improved 3D driver; and compatibility with a wider range of 3D broadcasts, including 1080p/24 and 720p side-by-side formats. Also, all of those 3D goodies can be accessed right from the included remote control.

JVC's flagship projectors are the DLA-X90R and DLA-RS65. Boasting hand-selected, hand-tested components, each model is rated with a 120,000:1 native contrast ratio. Both models also come packing two pairs of 3D glasses, the PK-EM1 3D Signal Emitter, and an MSRP of $11,999 each.

The DLA-X70R and DLA-RS55 advertise an 80,000:1 native contrast ratio, while the DLA-X30 and DLA-RS45 offer 50,000:1. The DLA-RS4800 is ISF certified, with a 55,000:1 native contrast ratio. It also comes with a spare lamp. The DLA-X70R and DLA-RS55 are priced at $7999 each, with the DLA-X30 and DLA-RS45 costing $3499. Last, but not least, the DLA-RS4800 has an MSRP of $4995. If you want to do the 3D, each of these models will need to be paired with the active-shutter glasses and emitter, which are sold separately.
