JVC Brightens Up 2016 D-ILA Projectors with 18Gbps HDMI/HDCP2.2 Support

By Rachel Cericola

The future is getting brighter -- or at least, the future of home theater.

Today, JVC announced six new projectors that promise 50 percent more brightness over the company's previous models. JVC's 2016 lineup will include the Procision Series DLA-X950R, the DLA-X750R, and the DLA-X550R, as well as the Reference Series DLA-RS600, DLA-RS500, and DLA-RS400.

All six feature two HDMI inputs with the latest HDMI/HDCP 2.2 standards, so you can tap into the most up-to-date 4K sources, as well as perks like high dynamic range (DLA-X950R/RS600 and DLA-X750R/RS500 only) and 4:4:4 color sampling. This means you can connect two HDCP 2.2 copy-protected devices simultaneously. Each one can also deliver data transfer rates up to 18Gbps to accommodate signals that are 4K60p 4:4:4, 4K60p 4:2:2/36-bit, and 4K24p 4:4:4/36-bit.

That brightness boost is aided by a new 265-watt high-power lamp and upgrades to JVC's e-shift4 technology. Promising pixel-free, film-like images, the DLA-X950R/RS600 is listed with 1,900 lumens, the DLA-X750R/RS500 has 1,800, and the DLA-X550R/RS400 will have 1,700. The e-shift feature delivers 4K precision (3840x2160) images by shifting the pixels diagonally 0.5 pixels at rate of up to 120Hz, multiplying the resolution. These highlights make each one of these projectors perfect for rooms that have big screens or even a little ambient light.

Other features include a native contrast ratio of 150,000:1, Motion Enhance to minimize motion blur, Control4 SDDP (Simple Device Discovery Protocol) for integrating with Control4 home automation systems, an on-board screen adjust mode, and more. Each model also has an Auto Calibration Function, but you'll need a JVC-approved optical sensor, JVC software, and a PC/LAN cable to use it.

The DLA-X950R/RS600 and DLA-X750R/RS500 also have THX 3D certification and JVC's Real Color Imaging Technology. Those top-of-the-line DLA-X950R/RS600 models also add in a user-selectable Intelligent Lens Aperture to boost dynamic contrast to 1,500,000:1.

JVC will start selling all 2016 D-ILA projectors sometime in November 2015. The DLA-X950R/RS600 will have an MSRP of $9,999.95, with the DLA-X750R/RS500 listed for $6,999.95. The DLA-X550R/RS400 will also be available around that time for $3,999.95. JVC will be making optional accessories available as well, including the PK-L2615U lamp, the PK-EM2 3D RF emitter, and PK-AG3 3D RF glasses.
