Insignia Adds Netflix Streaming to Blu-ray Players

Someday we are hoping that our alarm clock will stream Netflix. It could happen. It seems that they are slowing taking over this world of connected devices. This week, the movie rental service made the announcement that they will start streaming movies to two Insignia Blu-ray players, the NS-WBRDVD and NS-BRDVD3.

There are two things that get us super giddy about this announcement. First of all, the NS-BRDVD3 is only $149.99, but is currently on sale at BestBuy.com for $99.99. For those wanting something affordable for both HD Netflix streaming and Blu-ray playback, well... there you go. The other interesting thing is that the step-up player, the NS-WBRDVD has built-in Wi-Fi. That means no more worries about stretching that Ethernet cable. You'll have to pay a bit more for the privilege -- $249.99 MSRP to be precise, though it's frequently discounted to $199.99.

Aside from Netflix streaming, Best Buy's Insignia NS-WBRDVD also features built-in Wi-Fi.

Other features for both units include on-board Dolby TrueHD decoding (the NS-WBRDVD adds DTS-HD decoding), upconversion for standard-def DVDs, and the Energy Star seal of approval.  If you've got an HDMI-capable A/V receiver, you can stream any of the new audio formats out over HDMI for decoding in your receiver.

Netflix users must have an unlimited plan to use either player for streaming. If you've got that, you can instantly view titles from your Queue as many times as you'd like.

"Best Buy is a terrific place to shop for TVs, Blu-ray disc players, computers and other technology products that entertain and suit the lifestyle needs of millions of consumers," said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings. "We're proud to see Insignia models that instantly stream movies from Netflix on Best Buy shelves. Or, better yet, seeing customers buy them off the shelves."

Both of the new Insignia players are part of the Best Buy brand, which means that's the only place that you'll find them. Each player is available now in stores or on the Best Buy website.
