In My Sleep Review

Put This One To Sleep

A man wakes up naked in a cemetery, covered in blood, a bloody knife next to him. What happened? Marcus (Philip Winchester), the man in question, doesn't have a clue why he is there, why he is naked, or where the blood came from. Don't worry, he finds out, or at least he thinks he does. We find out, or at least we think we do, or maybe we don't find out, or maybe every revelation is a red herring.

Whatever the case, writer-director Allen Wolf, is determined to keep us guessing. The central problem is that it's difficult to even care what the truth is in this hodgepodge of bad acting, bad writing, bad production values, bad cinematography, and whatever else that can be bad.

Of all the bad acting on display, I would be remiss if I didn't single out Amy Aquino as the detective looking to crack the case. Actually, it may be more of a case of her being handed lines that no actor should be made to endure. Almost all of her lines are so unintentionally funny that you don't know whether to cringe or laugh.

Marcus is a great-looking guy and the babes fall all over themselves to bed him. Marcus, being the obliging sort, makes sure to sleep with every one of them. He does have one big problem, though. He's a parasomniac. That means sleepwalker. Because of his horrible affliction, he often wakes up unaware of what has happened since he last fell asleep. When he wakes up a bloody mess, he fears that he has done terrible harm to someone and he is tortured by this. To make himself a better person he seeks medical help and joins a sexaholics group.

Marcus's best friend, Justin (Tim Draxi), another good-looking guy, is married to Becky (Lacey Chabert). When Becky disappears, Marcus fears the worst. By this point, Marcus has a friend shackle him to his bed every night so that he cannot roam and kill during the night. He's obviously watched too many "Wolfman" movies.

The best thing I can say about "In My Sleep" is that I didn't fall asleep, but I would have been happier if I had passed out immediately after taking my seat.

Summary A sleepwalker wakes up never knowing if he might have committed evil acts while asleep. Writer-director Allen Wolf is the only one committing evil, and the audience is the victim.
