By Rachel Cericola

Willing to fight to the death for a copy of the box-office hit, The Hunger Games? You probably won't have to do that; it's coming to Blu-ray on August 18, 2012.

To whet your appetite for The Hunger Games Blu-ray, Lionsgate is giving a little taste of the upcoming release. Scroll down and you can get a peek at some of the special features that the studio is including on this upcoming 2-disc Blu-ray set.

With $661 million already banked, we can expect this release to be a good one. Besides the Blu-ray disc, a standard-def DVD and a Digital Copy of the movie, this set will include over three hours of bonus materials. That includes the comprehensive eight-part documentary, "The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games," as well as the Blu-ray exclusive, "Preparing for the Games: A Director's Process."

Other featurettes include a look at the book's success, the creation of the control room in the film, "A Conversation with Gary Ross and Elvis Mitchell," and more.

The Hunger Games Blu-ray will also feature a 2:40:1 aspect ratio, a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track, and more.

The Hunger Games is the first in the best-selling book trilogy by writer Suzanne Collins. Set in the future, the film revolves around an annual competition called The Hunger Games, which pits one male and one female from each of the twelve districts of the nation in a fight to the death, for all to see. Jennifer Lawrence stars as 16-year-old badass Katniss Everdeen. The film also has an all-star supporting cast, including Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, and Wes Bentley. For more about the movie, check out Joe Lozito's theatrical review of The Hunger Games.

"The motion picture event of the year is poised to become the home entertainment event of the year and with a midnight launch and midnight retail events scheduled at stores around the country, we expect to replicate the same level of consumer excitement generated by the film's theatrical debut," said Ron Schwartz, executive VP and GM of Lionsgate's home entertainment division. "This is far and away the biggest home entertainment launch in Lionsgate's history and, true to a theatrical marketing campaign that incorporated an unprecedented reliance on digital and traditional media alike, our home entertainment launch will involve a similarly innovative and integrated digital and packaged media rollout that we will unveil in the weeks ahead."

The Hunger Games Blu-ray is now available for pre-order, with an MSRP of $39.99. Amazon is currently discounting pre-orders, with its Pre-order Price Guarantee in effect.
