Home Theater Receiver Deal: Yamaha RX-V673: $299.95 (Save $350) - TODAY ONLY

By Chris Boylan

If you're looking for a deal on a high quality surround sound receiver for your living room or home theater, you had better act fast.  Amazon just posted the Yamaha RX-V673 7.2-channel A/V receiver as its "Gold Box" deal for Thursday, November 28th and it's a doozie. Instead of the list price of $649.99, or Amazon's regular sale price of $499.99, today only you can get it for $299.95 including shipping.

Why so cheap? Well it is last year's model, but it is brand new, factory-sealed and has pretty much all of the features that people look for today in a home theater receiver.  It has support for up to 7.2 channels, decoding for the latest surround sound formats, six HDMI inputs (as well as composite video and component video inputs) and even built-in support for Apple AirPlay. With this feature you can stream music from iTunes directly to your living room or home theater without having to physically connect your iPhone, iPod or iPad into the receiver.

If you're planning to use AirPlay, or the receiver's other networking capabilities, you might want to consider adding on the Wireless networking adapter.  The receiver includes a standard network port (RJ45 Ethernet), but if you can't get a network cable from your router to the receiver, the wireless adapter will allow you to connect to your network via standard WiFi.

Another nifty feature on the RX-V673 (that you won't find on most receivers in its price range) is analog to digital video transcoding. Why does this matter? If you have any older analog source components (like an older camcoder, VCR or a Wii console), you can connect that to the Yamaha receiver along with all your newer digital components and will only have to run a single HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV. The RX-V673 even includes support for 4K (Ultra HD) TVs via 4K passthrough or upconversion of high definition and standard definition sources to 4K over HDMI.

The RX-V673 includes six HDMI inputs (five on the back, one in the front), plus connections for component video and compositive video, as well as digital and analog audio sources.

In the audio department, the RX-V673 decodes DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD as well as high-resolution mutli-channel PCM streams. It's packing 90 watts per channel, driving up to 7 channels.  The amps can be assigned for a full 7-channel system (plus one or two subwoofers), or you can configure the front channels for bi-amping, or you can use two of the amps to drive a secondary zone. When you're ready to optimize your system for your room you can use the included microphone and Yamaha's proprietary YPAO-R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) Sound Optimization feature to optimize each speaker for your specific environment.

This deal is good today only (Thursday, November 28, 2013), while supplies last. I'd be surprised if it lasts the entire day so snag one while you can!
