Happy 37th Birthday, JAWS! Check out Details and Clips from the Remastered Blu-ray

By Rachel Cericola

It's a scorcher in some parts today, making it the perfect time to flock to the beach. Ready to go back into the water? You may want to wait on that.

Today is the first official day of summer, but it's also the 37th anniversary of JAWS. The film opened in theaters on June 20, 1975. (Something tells us that beaches probably weren't that crowded on the 21st!)

We still have a few weeks to wait for the August 14 Blu-ray release, but Universal is celebrating today's anniversary by throwing out a little chum to attract Blu-ray fans -- in the form of a few clips from the restored version of the film.

JAWS will make its Blu-ray debut on August 14th, 2012. Besides an all-new, digitally remastered and fully restored picture, this release will include a DTS-HD Master 7.1 Audio track. Fans will also appreciate over 4 hours of bonus material, which will cover everything from the production to the restoration process. There will also be plenty of production materials, deleted scenes, a 2-hour documentary on "The Making of JAWS," and the all-new feature length doc "The Shark is Still Working: The Impact & Legacy of JAWS."

If you've forgotten just how great this film is, check out the first clip from the restored Blu-ray, showing off the classic "Night Swim" scene:

Still not sure about this purchase? Maybe you need a bigger boat...

Packed in collectible, limited packaging, the set will also come with a standard-def DVD of the film, as well as a Digital Copy and an UltraViolet copy.

Winning three of its four Oscar nominations, JAWS spawned a total of three sequels. The original, however, remains one of the highest-grossing films of all-time. It stars Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton.

The JAWS Blu-ray is now available for pre-order, with an MSRP of $29.98. Amazon currently taking pre-orders at a discounted price, with the retailer's pre-order price guarantee in effect. While you wait for the release date, you can get a peek at the film's restoration process from director Steven Spielberg and others close to the film in the clip below.
