HDTV Deals: Blowout Prices on 2012 Panasonic LED/Plasma TVs (Limited Time)

By Rachel Cericola

Before you run off for the weekend and blow all of your money on making happy hour extend beyond the typical 60 minutes, think about how awesome it would be to spend the weekend with a brand new HDTV. Luckily, Panasonic is brewing up a tasty sale on a slew of LED and plasma TVs. We found several models on sale, in screen sizes ranging from 32 to 55 inches.

A few of the sets are plasmas, a few are LEDs, some are smart and some have 3D. Some even require a coupon code. Yes, we know that you'd clip a coupon to save a buck on cereal. Why wouldn't you copy and paste to save over $800 on a TV? Before you do that, let's take a look at some of the models Panasonic is currently discounting.

First up is the E50 Series. Panasonic has two LEDs on sale from this line. Both have a full 1080p HD image, as well as Panasonic's LED IPS (In Plane Switching) panels for better black levels, off-axis viewing and reduced power consumption. Other features on the 42- and 55-inchers featured here include 360 backlight scanning, DLNA support, four HDMI inputs and two USB ports. Also, each one has an Ethernet jack, although you may want to opt for the optional WiFi adapter to easily hook this HDTV to your network. Both of these sets have VIERA Connect, which is Panasonic's web-based platform with instant access to Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, Pandora, YouTube, and more.

Panasonic is currently discounting two screen sizes from its 2012 E50 Series.

The 42-inch TC-L42E50 has an MSRP of $899.99, with the 55-inch TC-L55E50 coming in at $1,597.99. However, if you're willing to add in a special coupon code, you can get some really nice discounts on both of these E50 Series sets.

There's one more 55-incher on sale, under the E54 Series. The 55-inch TC-55LE54 is very similar to the two models mentioned above. However, this set comes with the WiFi adapter inside the box, as well as an original MSRP of $1,349.99. Other features include HDMI inputs and two USB ports.

If you need something slightly smaller, there's one 50-incher on sale, the TC-L50EM5. This model is part of the EM5 Series and usually sells for $699.99. It doesn't have web streaming, but there's a full 1080p HD image and edge-lit LED. It also has two HDMI inputs, a USB port and a PC input, in case you want to add in a Blu-ray player or something else with streaming access.

The lone member on sale from the ET Series is the 42-inch TC-L42ET5. This model adds back in the VIERA Connect platform, which can be accessed via WiFi -- if you want to add in an optional adapter. Other features include Panasonic's LED IPS (In Plane Switching) panels, 360 backlight scanning, DLNA support, four HDMI inputs and two USB ports. It has an MSRP of $1099.99.

The last of the discounted LED models is the 32-inch TC-L32B6. This 32-incher is a no-frills direct-lit LED from the B6 Series, with an MSRP of $329.99. That includes a 720p image, two HDMI inputs and one USB port. It also has a Media Player function for displaying content via an external SD card or USB device.

If you'd prefer to have a plasma, there are three additional sets available during this sale period -- and each one comes packing that type of technology, as well as 3D and some other interesting perks.

The smallest of this lot is the 50-inch TC-P50GT50. With an MSRP of $1799.99, this is very similar to the acclaimed VT50 Series (which we'll get into in a minute). However, the GT50 has a different screen filter. It also doesn't come with Panasonic's touchpad controller, which provides voice control. What it does have is active 3D technology, 1080p in both 2D and 3D, and THX 3D certification. Other features include Infinite Black Pro, built-in WiFi, VIERA Connect and the 8-train speaker system.

Panasonic's VT50 Series was the winner of the Value Electronics 2012 HDTV shootout.

The two remaining plasmas are both 55-inchers. The 55-inch TC-P55UT50 has full 1080p in 2D and 3D, as well as a 2D-to-3D conversion feature, fast-switching phosphors, and the Neo Plasma Black 2500 FDD (Focused Field Drive) for super-sharp images. With an MSRP of $1399.99, this one is missing is built-in WiFi, but provides that option with an adapter. It also has all of the web-based goodies from Panasonic's VIERA Connect platform.

The last of the models currently on sale is the aforementioned 55-inch TC-P55VT50, which typically sells for $2499.99. This is quite the coveted model, with all of the bells and whistles you could possibly imagine. This one has Panasonic's pre-discharge plasma technology and louvred screen filter, as well as THX 3D certification and the 96Hz Cinematic Playback mode. It also has a full 1080p image, active 3D, built-in WiFi and VIERA Connect.
