Fluendo Moves Moovida to Version 2.1.0

By Peter Suciu

Trying to find a particular movie or show online isn't that hard, but finding compatible technology is the real trick. With so many computer standards, codecs, formats and sources for media, finding what you need can be worse than finding a haystack in a needle factory.

Back at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, we were introduced to Fluendo's Moovida, a service that had originally launched as a full screen media player called Elisa back in 2008 for Windows and Linux. The service was designed as a one stop shop for online content - where it would help users find what they wanted, and more importantly in the proper format.

This week Fluendo rolled out the Moovida version 2.1.0, which promises better multimedia management along with an improved user experience.

"Moovida is constantly evolving to offer both real control over the media files stored on the users' devices and an outstanding user experience that will allow them to enjoy multimedia like no other media center before," said Emmanuel Marquez, CEO of Fluendo. "By adding new capabilities and improving Moovida's performance, we aim at providing users with an application that transcends the simple playback and administration of media files and allows digital media to grasp the limelight in the TV room."

Moovida 2.1.0 offers new features including the MoovidaViewer, designed to launch any media associated with Moovida on your computer in less than 3 seconds. The service now offers movie trailers in two formats, Core and Immersed. From the Core interface, it is now possible to leverage the graphic horsepower with its support for DirectX Video Acceleration System, which allows decoding of full HD movies. This feature will be particularly appreciated by consumers who use Moovida on portable devices, where it should help save battery life. Also important in this release is the ability to support external subtitles (.srt files, for instance) through a simple file selection dialog accessible from the menu.

Moovida's Immersed interface offers a new dashboard that allows users to create playlists, grouping movies by director, year, actors or any other filter. Immersed includes 3 different backgrounds to choose from, making this application highly customizable. Additionally, Immersed gives users the ability to run a live search by typing a movie name and browsing their media library with a keyboard.

The service has also added a weather application that automatically adapts to the users' location, giving a forecast that reflects not only location, but also  time of day. The Moovida 2.1.0 version launched this week and is available now for download.
