Epson Pairs MegaPlex MG-850HD, MG-50 Portable Projectors with iPod, iPhone and iPad

By Rachel Cericola

Ask anyone who's got an iPod, iPhone or iPad. If you can actually get their attention for 5 seconds, they'd probably tell you how much they've come to depend on that device for countless hours of entertainment. Now, Epson wants all of those people to share that wealth of content, so they are sharing a line of MegaPlex projectors, specifically designed for use with the iPod, iPhone and/or iPad.

The line will launch with two projectors: MegaPlex MG-850HD and MegaPlex MG-50. Both can create an instant big-screen experience, almost anywhere -- including outdoors. Both models feature 3LCD technology, two built-in 10-watt stereo speakers, and a built-in dock for the iPod, iPhone and/or iPad.

The MegaPlex MG-850HD is the flagship unit, promising a 720p high-definition resolution and high brightness of 2,800 lumens of color and white light output. The MegaPlex MG-50 can do a 540p resolution and up to 2,200 lumens.

Besides movies on the fly, both units can be used in the living room or the boardroom. While the projector plays content, that dock is also charging your portable for later use. If you don't have an Apple-branded device, it also works with a variety of other media devices, including smartphones, PCs, tablets, gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, set-top boxes and more.

Other features on each model include four optimized audio modes, a microphone input, HDMI and VGA inputs, and a USB port. Each one also has a handle, making that big-screen experience much easier to carry around.

"MegaPlex is the ideal big screen projector for the new digital lifestyle. Enabling consumers to share multimedia content from their iPod, iPhone, iPad and a wide assortment of other digital devices, MegaPlex is changing the way movies, gaming, slideshows, presentations, music, and more are viewed by eliminating the confinement of a smaller screen," says Jason Palmer, Epson America's product manager. "With the high-quality, versatility and portability of Epson's MegaPlex solutions, consumers can literally dock their iPad, iPhone or iPod, click and immediately share multimedia content on a big screen wherever they may be."

Epson says that both projectors will start selling this month. The MegaPlex MG-850HD has an MSRP of $799, with the MegaPlex MG-50 priced at $699. Both come with Epson service and support, including a two-year limited warranty with toll-free access to Epson's PrivateLine priority technical support and free two-business-day exchange with Extra Care Home Service.
