Early Black Friday Tablet Deals: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7-inch: $179.99; 10.1-inch: $299.01

If you didn't catch our holiday season and CES 2013 preview last week, you missed some great information about what you should be looking for when shopping for that significant other in your life. Headphones and soundbars are going to fly off the shelves starting this week, but neither one of those products is even going to approach the pandemonium surrounding tablets. Big box and online retailers are already experiencing heavy demand so we're actually suggesting that you pull the trigger to avoid disappointment. Samsung has a rather impressive line-up of Android-based tablets which are already on sale.

The 7-inch category has become incredibly crowded of late with the release of iPad Mini, Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD, and Nexus 7, but one of the best tablets out there is the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 from Samsung.  And now you can pick one up from Amazon for only $179.99 with free shipping. Not only does this Android-based tablet work great with Netflix but it does the job when you need to check email on the train or look up and order that new Blu-ray the kids have been bothering you about. Looking for your next touch screen universal remote control loaded with great apps?  The Tab 2 has got that too with the pre-loaded Peel Smart Remote app and a built-in IR emitter

Having spent some time with the Nexus 7 as well as the larger Galaxy Note, I'm starting to see why the 7" tablets are catching on; fast processors, sharp looking screens, and they fit so much better in your jacket.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 offers full access to the Google Play Store, as well as a built-in Universal Remote control to operate your TV or home theater system.
Our own Chris Chiarella spent some time with the 7" Galaxy Tab 2 and loved it so much, we had to go to his home to get it back. It was a 2012 Biggie Award winner.

But what if a 7-inch tablet isn't going to keep the kids quiet in the back of the car as you make that 800 mile drive to the grandparents for Christmas? Sharing isn't their strongest behavioral trait and they both want to watch that pre-loaded copy of The Amazing Spider-Man at the same time.

Have no fear. The 10.1" Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is here. For $299.01 ($200 below its original price), the 10.1 inch Tab 2 allows the kids to watch their favorite movie or play Angry Birds on a fairly big screen. Those extra 3 inches  do make a difference when watching a movie or trying to read an annoying document from the office at 3 am.

Under $300 for a 10.1-inch name brand Android tablet? Yup.

Chris Chiarella and I both reviewed 10.1" tablets from Samsung this year and needless to say we gave them both high marks.
Don't delay as manufacturers are expected to sell tens of millions of tablets in the U.S. alone over the next few weeks and Samsung's tablets tend to sell out rather quickly, particularly at these lower prices.

As of publication of this article, the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 is not in stock on Amazon, but Amazon is honoring the $179 price and will ship the tablet to you when available.  You may need to look on the right side of the product page under "More Buying Choices" to see Amazon.com as the seller and add this to your cart.  See illustration on the right for what that looks like and pay attention to your shopping cart to make sure the price is right before you submit your order.
