Dr. No Returns to Theaters for 50th Birthday as Bond 50 Blu-ray Boxed Set is Released

By Rachel Cericola

James Bond fans will get to see that suave hero on the big-screen again very soon. However, we're not talking about Daniel Craig and the November 9 release of Skyfall.

AMC Theatres, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Park Circus are working together to bring the classic Dr. No back to theaters for one night only.

The special one-night engagement is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise. Dr. No will air in 50 AMC locations nationwide on Monday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. That's one day before MGM releases the Bond 50: The Complete 22 Film James Bond Collection Blu-ray set.

Released in 1962, Dr. No is the very first James Bond movie, with Sean Connery taking on the iconic role. The film finds Bond in Jamaica to investigate the death of a fellow agent. That's where he meets up with super-villain Dr. Julius No (Joseph Wiseman), who has his evil sights set on a space launch. Ursula Andress (and a very famous white bikini) also star in the film that launched the franchise.

"Bond is an iconic character that has spanned 50 years and garnered generations of followers," said Robert J. Lenihan, president of AMC programming. "As the excitement for Skyfall continues to build, we're excited to bring the original story back for James Bond fans."

Tickets for Dr. No's one-night engagement are currently on sale for $7 each. Each guest will score a commemorative "50 Years of James Bond" print, as well as the chance to win the Bond 50 box set. Bond 50 includes all 22 Bond films on Blu-ray in one set. Bond 50 is currently available for pre-order, with an MSRP of $299.99.
