Dolby Theatre to Open with Premiere of Disney-Pixar's Brave with 3D and Atmos Audio

By Rachel Cericola

If you're looking to be one of the first people to see the next Disney-Pixar film, Brave, think about booking a ticket to Hollywood.

Dolby will world premiere Disney-Pixar's 13th theatrical film on June 18, 2012, for the grand opening of Hollywood's Dolby Theatre. As a special presentation for Film Independent's 2012 Los Angeles Film Festival, Brave will debut in the 180,000-square-foot, 3,400-seat facility formerly known as the Kodak Theatre, which is home to the Oscars.

This premiere will be a different kind of red-carpet event, however. Instead of "what are you wearing," people will wonder what they are seeing and hearing. Brave will make its big debut in Dolby 3D. It's also expected to be the first movie to include Dolby Atmos Audio. Dolby Atmos is a new audio platform that promises a more natural, realistic soundfield -- using up to 64 speakers.

"We are committed to creating the best entertainment experiences, and now with the grand opening of the Dolby Theatre, we are honored to host the best as well," said Ramzi Haidamus, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Dolby Laboratories. "This is the first of many exclusive and exciting events -- from movie premieres to awards ceremonies -- in which Dolby and our technologies will play a featured role."

Set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, Brave tells the story of Merida, a skilled archer who is forced to discover the meaning of true bravery. Brave will open nationwide in theaters on June 22, 2012.

"With a spirited heroine and enchanting setting in the ancient Scottish Highlands, Brave represents some exciting firsts for Pixar," said Ricky Strauss, president of marketing for The Walt Disney Studios. "We are proud that the world premiere of Brave will serve as the inaugural premiere at the new Dolby Theatre as part of the LA Film Festival, a fitting way to launch Merida's extraordinary adventure."

Sponsored by VisitScotland, this world-premiere event will be available to Los Angeles Film Festival attendees with Platinum All-Access or Gold Passes. Check out the trailer for the film below.
