Denon Adds 2 New Receivers to X Series

By Rachel Cericola

Denon has been cranking out the receivers lately. Just last month, the company debuted the moderately priced AVR-S710W and AVR-S910W. Now, the X Series is about to get two new entries, the AVR-X1300W and the AVR-X2300W.

Both of these 7.2-channel receivers come packing support for Dolby Atmos. This means that if you pair one of these receivers with the proper speaker configuration and Dolby Atmos content, you will be able to experience sound from every angle -- including overhead. It also includes Dolby Surround, which promises to give standard Dolby content a nice boost. The company plans to add the DTS:X audio format and the DTS Neural:X upmixer at some point via a firmware upgrade later this year.

The AVR-X1300W has seven discrete amplifier channels, with each cranking 80 watts. It also has support for HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 specifications on all six of the receiver's HDMI inputs, as well as 4K Ultra HD video with 4K 60Hz video, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub sampling, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 21:9 video, 3D, and BT.2020 pass-through capabilities on every input.

If you're looking for more music options, the AVR-X1300W has built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Apple AirPlay for easy wireless streaming from your favorite portable devices. Of course, you can also stream web radio, Pandora, Spotify Connect, and SiriusXM straight to the unit. (Just know that subscriptions and/or fees may apply.) Denon says that this model can even play High-Resolution Audio files, such as FLAC, AIFF, or DSD (even up to 5.6MHz).

Other features include a front-panel USB port, Audyssey MultEQ XT calibration tools, Audyssey Dynamic Volume volume adjustment, and Audyssey Dynamic EQ.

The AVR-X2300W has everything mentioned above, but pumps the sound up to 95 watts per channel (8 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.08% THD). Also worth mentioning is that this model has eight HDMI inputs, two HDMI outputs, and a video processor section that can upscale HDMI sources to a near-4K quality. It's also certified by the Imaging Science Foundation, which means it comes with a full suite of ISFccc advanced video calibration controls. Other extras include pre-outs for a second zone and an RS-232 port.

Denon will start shipping the AVR-X1300W and the AVR-X2300W this month, priced at $599 and $799, respectively.
