DTS Play-Fi Wireless Whole Home Music is Coming to DISH Hopper DVR, Thiel Speakers, Pioneer Receivers, and more

By Rachel Cericola

These days, there are a lot of ways to wirelessly stream music from one room to the other. One way theĀ DTS Play-Fi method stands out is that it allows you to use a variety of different products from different manufacturers. Another way? DTS has announced a whole new list of partners that will be joining that mix very soon.

The company just released plans to add several products to the DTS Play-Fi family. DTS Play-Fi uses your home's existing Wi-Fi setup to stream music from smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop PCs to a variety of devices around the house. And you can create that whole-house system with anything in the DTS Play-Fi ecosystem. So basically, you can have the Definitive Technology Wireless Music System in one room and the Integra DLB-5 in another -- and have them both on the same wireless music network.

Currently, the lineup includes more than 30 interoperable speakers, soundbars, and receivers from companies such as Aerix, Anthem, Arcam, Autonomic, Definitive Technology, Fusion Research, Integra, Klipsch, MartinLogan, McIntosh, Onkyo, Paradigm, Phorus, Pioneer, Polk Audio, Rotel, Sonus faber, and Wren Sound Systems.

The company is planning to add several new products to that list, including the DISH Hopper 3 and Joey. Both products will receive a software update this month, which will allow subscribers to stream synchronized music through the home to connected speakers. Pioneer, Onkyo, and Integra will also release a similar update sometime this year, which will add DTS Play-Fi to more than 100 products, including the Integra DRC-R1, the Onkyo PR-RZ5100, the Onkyo TX-RZ3100, and the Pioneer SC-LX901.

Several new products will launch with DTS Play-Fi capabilities later this year, including the Arcam rPlay wireless music receiver, the Soundcast VG10 portable outdoor speaker, and several models from THIEL's new AURORA LifeStream wireless speaker system. Klipsch and Phorus will also launch new far-field microphone-equipped DTS Play-Fi products, which will also include Amazon Alexa.

Besides personal music, DTS Play-Fi can stream Amazon Prime Music, Deezer, iHeartRadio, KKBox, Napster, Qobuz, QQ Music, Pandora, SiriusXM, Spotify, Tidal, and thousands of Internet radio stations. Just know that subscriptions and/or fees may apply.

In addition to new products in the mix, DTS will be adding new features to DTS Play-Fi this year. Expect to see smartwatch support, discrete speaker support, enhanced Spotify Connect control, and native rendering of any resolution configuration up to and including 24-bit/192 kHz.
