DTS Play-Fi Wireless Speakers Get Rdio and Rhapsody Access

By Rachel Cericola

When it comes to music, more is always a good thing. And if you have a little something from the DTS Play-Fi ecosystem, you will soon know the meaning of "more."

That's because all DTS Play-Fi speakers can now access Rhapsody and Rdio streaming music. (Just FYI: Subscriptions and/or fees may apply.) DTS just announced the addition of both services. However, it's important to note that this is a perk that's strictly for Android-based users.

However, iOS users will be happy to know that iTunes high-resolution audio is now available to all Play-Fi speakers. Just know that you will need an iOS device that supports up to 24-bit/192kHz, using WAV, FLAC and/or ALAC formats.

If you're more about the quantity of music, Rhapsody boasts more than 34 million songs, while Rdio offers a catalog of over 32 million songs.

"Rdio is committed to innovating streaming by simplifying the way people enjoy music," said Anthony Bay, CEO of Rdio. "We are pleased to further customize the Rdio listening experience by integrating our unsurpassed catalog of more than 35 million songs and powerful music discovery features across the DTS Play-Fi ecosystem."

DTS Play-Fi allows users to stream music wirelessly to Play-Fi-capable speakers from any smartphone, tablet or computer, using an existing WiFi network. No bridges or routers are needed. Even better, it allows you to mix and match speakers from different manufacturers. If it supports the Play-Fi platform, it can be part of one big multiroom music system.

Currently, Play-Fi speakers are made by Definitive Technology, Phorus, Polk and Wren Audio. Additional brands should be announced shortly.
