DISH Network Starts Streaming HBO and Cinemax Online

By Rachel Cericola

Want to spend the summer catching up on Boardwalk Empire and True Blood? Netflix isn't going to help you. However, DISH Network will be able to fill in those gaps on your viewing schedule.

The satellite service provider just made the announcement that DISHOnline.com now offers instant, unlimited access to content from HBO and Cinemax.

DISH customers who subscribe to HBO or Cinemax can now stream blockbuster films, such as The Hangover and Avatar. However, the big perk is that they also have access to all of HBO's original programming, which includes films as well as TV series. That is something that Netflix does not currently offer.

"DISH Network is thrilled to be working with HBO to bring this broad collection of top-billed content to our customers for instant access at DISHOnline.com," said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network. "DISH Network customers with an HBO or Cinemax subscription can also get new series titles after their premiere -- plus bonus content including interviews, recaps and behind-the-scenes extras -- none of which are available through Netflix's online service."

Netflix has actually been trying to make a deal with HBO for quite some time. However, it looks like the cable net is more interested in doing its own thing, which includes offering content through HBO GO.

Besides an HBO or Cinemax subscription, viewers will also need a broadband connection and a DISHOnline.com account. Once you are set up, you can log onto and look for content at DISHOnline.com, HBOGO.com or MAXGO.com.

DISHOnline.com currently offers more than 150,000 popular movies, TV shows, clips and trailers in one easy-to-use website. In addition to the new pay services, DISHOnline.com also has a ton of free movies and programming from channels such as ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNET, USA Network, and much more.
