Cloudy With a 100 Percent Chance of 3D Coming to Blu-ray 3D

By Peter Suciu

The sky is falling, or rather meatballs, and now with this impending release from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment you'll be able to see them come crashing down in glorious 3D with the studio's first Blu-ray 3D title, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, which is expected to begin shipping on June 22.

And while there are some promotional Blu-ray 3D discs floating around (exclusive to either Panasonic or Samsung 3D TV buyers), Cloudy will be the first generally available Blu-ray 3D title.  The Sony Pictures Animation comedy adventure features colorful settings and groundbreaking lighting technology, which was crafted by an award-winning animation team. This will be brought to Blu-ray 3D in full 1080p high definition and optimized for the latest 3D playback devices and eyewear. The disc will further include a 2D-compatible HD version for playback on current generation Blu-ray players.

"We are thrilled to announce the first Blu-ray 3D titles from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment," said SPHE worldwide president David Bishop. "The addition of 3D showcases the versatility of Blu-ray and further demonstrates why it is being adopted by the mainstream as the home entertainment format of choice."

Both will soon be arriving on Blu-ray 3D as well.  The first Blu-ray 3D title from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs will also be available bundled with select Sony Electronics 3D HDTVs.

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs is rated PG for brief mild language and has a running time of approximately 90 minutes. It will arrive at retail on June 22.
