Classé Adds 3D Passthrough to SSP-800 and CT-SSP Home Theater Processors

By Rachel Cericola

Ready to go 3D? You may be more ready than you think.

Classé Audio just announced plans to upgrade its SSP-800 and CT-SSP surround sound processors. This may be fine and dandy for those about to purchase either product, but what about existing owners? Don't worry; Classé has got you covered as well.

The upgrade comes in the form of a new video board, which features five full-featured HDMI 1.4 inputs and two outputs. All support standard 3D video resolutions and formats, as well as HEC (HDMI Ethernet Channel) and ARC (Audio Return Channel).

Because Classé designed the original board to be easily replaced, an upgrade to either 10-channel processor is extremely straightforward in the rear panel space. You will lose two S-Video inputs, but gain a fifth HDMI input. That sounds like a decent swap, given today's A/V devices.

Upgrade kits will be available later this year through authorized Classé dealers. You may have to pay labor fees, but the kit on its own is expected to sell for $1500. New 3D-ready SSP-800 and CT-SSP will the new video board built in will start selling in November for $9500.

The Classé SSP-800 is a 10-channel preamp/processor with touchscreen control.

"The SSP-800 and its rack-advantaged twin, the CT-SSP, are the most successful products in Classé history," said Dave Nauber, executive VP of Classé's brand development. "They have the right technology, performance and price. Adding new HDMI 1.4 capabilities will ensure they remain the processors that everyone wants to own."
