CES: VIZIO Takes Industry Lead to LED TV Segment for 2010

By Peter Suciu

VIZIO is getting the "LED" out this year with 37 LED LCD HDTVs ranging in size from 16 inches to 72 inches diagonally. VIZIO's expanded line offers everything from "E" series entry-level models, through the "M" series mainstream line and into their new XVT PRO series of high-end models.  These models promise to use up to 50 percent less power than previous models, thanks mostly to the use of state of the art LEDs (light emitting diodes) to illuminate the screens, instead of less efficient CCFL (cold cathode fluourescent light).

The flagship XVT Pro series will include 1080p TruLED TVs with Smart Dimming (local dimming) in 72-inch, 55-inch and 47-inch sets. These sets are full HD3D models with 480Hz SPS refresh rates, and will offer access to VIZIO Internet Apps (VIA). This line includes wireless HDMI capabilities, and these models will have built-in Wi-Fi along with a Bluetooth universal remote with full QWERTY keyboard.

The M Series 1080p FHD models utilize Edge-type LED backlighting, and are available in 55-inch, 47-inch and 42-inch sizes. The 55- and 47-inch models include VIA, wireless networking and Bluetooth remote. For those looking for smaller sets that still deliver the goods when it comes to picture quality, there is the XVT Series Razor LED 1080p FHD line of sets, available in 32-inch and 37-inch models. These offer 16 zones of smart dimming. These feature a Bluetooth remote, along with built-in Wi-Fi.
