CES: Sherwood Introduces Five New Home Theater Receivers

By Dennis Burger

It's not easy setting oneself apart in the A/V receiver market these days, but Sherwood is certainly on the right track with their selection of new receivers introduced last week at this year's CES.

Starting at the entry level, the company's new RD-5405 receiver features Dolby Digital processing, 70 watts per channel of amplification, and two HDMI inputs for $169.95.

To that, the RD-6505 adds Dolby EX and DTS processing, an additional HDMI input, analog 5.1-channel inputs, and 110 watts per channel of amplification for $219.95. The RD-6505 also supports an optional Sherwood Bluetooth adaptor, which plugs into the front panel and facilitates streaming audio from any Bluetooth-enabled audio device.

The RD-7405, also $219.95, is for all intents and purposes a 7.1-channel version of the RD5405. It also has 70 watts per channel of amplification, Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II processing, and two HDMI inputs, and its two additional channels can alternately be used to power a second zone.

Sherwood also showed a model RD-7405HDR, which has all the features of the RD-7405, with the addition of HD Radio capabilities, including displaying song and artist information on its front panel and receiving multi-cast programming from stations with secondary HD2 channels.

Last but not least, the company's new RD-7505 comes complete with three HDMI 1.4 inputs for full compatibility with 3D Blu-ray players. The 7.1-channel receiver also has internal Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio processing and Sherwood's patented SNAP room EQ and volume control, as well as support for the aforementioned Sherwood Bluetooth adaptor. This swiss army knife-like receiver can be had for the surprisingly affordable MSRP of $349.95.

All models are slated for May, 2010 availability
