CES: Blackfire Research Teases Us with Wireless Hi-Fi

By Dennis Burger

While wireless subwoofers seem to be catching on at a respectable rate even with luddites, concerns about quality and interference seem to have kept wireless main speakers out of the audiophile limelight.

Perhaps that will change this summer when Blackfire Research releases its Smart Speaker System. Each Smart Speaker has its own build-in 100 watt Class AB amplifier (<0.01%THD), 24-bit/192 kHz ultra-low-jitter digital-to-analog converter, upsampling audio engine, and proprietary wireless networking technology, all designed for the utmost in audio fidelity.

Simply install Blackfire's proprietary software on your computer or wi-fi capable smart phone, and you're ready to stream CDs, ripped music, or internet sources like Rhapsody and Pandora directly to the speakers.

Of, if you'd prefer to us your own speakers, Blackfire will also offer Monoblock Smart Amplifiers, which house all of the DACs and engines and wireless technology from the Smart Speakers in an external form factor perfect for placement on or under your existing towers.

Blackfire Research reps were rather mum about the cost of each system on the show floor, hinting only at "certainly not low-end, but not extreme audiophile" pricing and a summer release date.
