CES: Apple Meets Apple with The Beatles MusicSkins for iPod and iPhone

By Chris Chiarella

Taking to new heights the huge-and-growing "skin" market--to quickly and easily add custom graphics to everyday technology items--MusicSkins has released a collection of new designs in celebration of the biggest rock band of all time, The Beatles. Expected to be the hottest seller are the Beatles skins for iPods and iPhones, making MusicSkins technically the first company in history authorized to offer Beatles products for Apple products. (Can selling Apple Records on Apple's iTunes be far behind?)

MusicSkins are made of a patented 3M vinyl that is removable with no residue, immediately replaceable, and the special air release channels assure no bubbles. The durable, scratch-resistant, glossy photo-grade surface provides an ideal canvas for the eight different designs: seven albums (With the Beatles, Hard Day's Night, Rubber Soul, Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Let It Be) and the iconic "Beatles" logo.

Apple Corps, which manages The Beatles' business affairs, placed certain restrictions on the use of the artwork, including respectfully prohibiting the use of faces on the iPod click wheel, for example. Layout and the placement of original text have also been tweaked. Purchasers can download coordinated wallpaper images for the iPod/iPhone screen free of charge, to complete the look.

All of the iPod/iPhone-model Beatles MusicSkins are available now, priced at $15, with skins for many other popular devices (including the Amazon Kindle) priced at $15-30.
