Bowers & Wilkins Packs Audiophile Sound into Slick P3 Headphones

By Rachel Cericola

It's ok to hoard your music. In fact, Bowers & Wilkins is pretty much encouraging it, with the announcement of its new P3 headphones.

The P3 is B&W's first headphone product since they debuted the P5 in 2009. The P5 is still available, with an MSRP of $299.99. However, if that's a little too rich for your blood and you can wait, the P3 can be had for $100 less.

Featuring aluminum and durable rubber, the P3 also packs in custom-made drive units and a specially designed ear pad fabric. All of that folds up nicely, too, making it easy to take the P3 almost anywhere or just stuff into your desk. It even comes with its own compact hard-shell carry case.

According to B&W, the P3 has ultra-linear neodymium magnets and driver terminals that promise uniform airflow for more linear movement and less distortion. The company is keeping mum on most of the other details, only saying that the P3 comes from the same minds responsible for the P5 headphones, as well as the Zeppelin Air and B&W's 800 Series Diamond speakers.

Expect black and white versions of the P3 to be cutting you off from the outside world starting this June. These headphones also come with a choice of cables. One has a remote/microphone combo for iPhone users. The other pairs up nicely with pretty much any other type of MP3 player.

B&W is listing the P3's MSRP at $199.99. If you can't wait, the company is selling the P5 on-ear headphones now for $299.99 and the C5 in-ear headphones for $179.99.
