Blockbuster Promises Free Movie Rentals for Students with Good Grades

By Rachel Cericola

Hey, kids: Here's another reason to stay in school and actually pay attention: free movies! Blockbuster just announced its "Good Grades, Free Rental" program, which promises free movie rentals to kids who can earn a B average or better on their report cards.

The Good Grades, Free Rental program is open to kids in kindergarten through 12th grade. Just bring your report card into any participating Blockbuster store in the U.S. Don't show up with your report card from five years ago. It needs to be from the 2011 year, with a B average grade (satisfactory, 2.7 or 80% grade) or better. Also, you're going to need a parental signature on there (or a reasonable facsimile thereof).

To get that free rental, you must present your report card to Blockbuster within 30 days of issuance. You'll also need an active Blockuster account, as well as that account's authorized renter.  In other words, your parents will have to be in the loop on this, or your big brother, or your cousin -- someone with a valid Blockbuster account.

"Blockbuster wants to help show students one of life's great lessons: hard work has its rewards," said Kevin Lewis, chief marketing officer for Blockbuster. "We believe the 'Good Grades, Free Rental' program gives teachers and parents another tool to provide positive reinforcement to school-age kids."

Qualifying students are eligible each grading period for one free non-new release Blockbuster movie rental in DVD format. Sorry, that means no Blu-rays, kids!

Assuming you can still find a Blockbuster in your neighborhood, here's a nifty little perk that will start the summer off right for good students.
