Black Friday Plasma TV Deals: Big Discounts on Panasonic HDTVs

By Chris Boylan

If you've been researching TVs for a potential purchase this holiday season, you've probably seen that Panasonic HDTV sets consistently garner high marks from most of the specialty sites such as CNET, Home Theater, Sound and Vision, Electronic House, the HD Guru and (of course), Big Picture Big Sound.  The truth is that many of us here at BPBS use a Panasonic set as our reference display, specifically a Panasonic plasma TV, due to their superior motion resolution, color saturation and black levels.  This year Panasonic has branched out into LED sets as well so there's something for everyone.  But for now, let's concentrate on the plasmas.

Last year, Panasonic's Black Friday sale was so big, it crashed their web site... multiple times.  This year, they're at it again with discounts of up to 50% off the regular selling prices of popular plasma and LED TVs.  They're also throwing in a free Blu-ray 3D player (the DMP-BDT220) with some TV purchases, which is a nice little bonus considering these normally sells for $129.99.  The BDT220 is a wireless streaming Blu-ray 3D player with access to Netflix, Amazon VOD, VUDU, Pandora, YouTube and many other streaming services and apps.

NOTE: You have to put some of these items into your cart in order to see the current price!

Why buy a disposable TV this holiday season when you can buy an heirloom instead, like this top of the line VT50 plasma from Panasonic.

The deals are too numerous to list them all, but here are a few highlights (check the site for details):

  • 50-inch U50 - TC-P50U50 (1080p): $700.99
  • 60-inch U50 - TC-P60U50 (1080p): $899.99
  • 50-inch UT50 - TC-P50UT50 (1080p, 3D, Smart TV): $800.99 with Free Blu-ray 3D Player
  • 60-inch UT50 - TC-P60UT50 (1080p, 3D, Smart TV): $1301.99 with Free Blu-ray 3D Player
  • 55-inch ST50 - TV-P55ST50 (1080p, 3D, Smart TV): $1211.99
The U50 and UT50 series TVs are solid performers with 1080p resolution and good black levels and color saturation.  The U50 does not include 3D or streaming capabilities, but the UT50 does.  The ST50, GT50 and VT50 series all feature 3D and Viera Connect for streaming and apps.  they also use Panasonic's best plasma panel ever with even better black levels and color accuracy than the U and UT series.  There are additional improvements to picture quality and styling as you move up from the ST50 to GT50 (THX Certified) to VT50 (THX Certified, top of the line), but all represent a solid investment and should provide years of viewing enjoyment.

If last year is any indication, many of these deals will not last the night, so if you see something you like, you might want to put it in your cart and check out before it's gone.
Please note: all deals posted on Big Picture Big Sound are current as of the posting date and time. These deals are frequently time- or stock-limited and generally do not last.
