Black Friday OLED TV Deal: LG 55-inch OLED55B7A Under $1500 Shipped

By Chris Boylan

The TV world always has a critic's darling. CRT gave way to plasma, plasma gave way to LED/LCD, and now LED/LCD technology has to make room for OLED TV. OLED's self-illuminating pixels make for excellent contrast and black levels as well as rich saturated colors. And the leader in OLED TV technology is LG.

The drawback with OLED? They tend to be more expensive than LED/LCD sets. But when they've got the best picture quality on the market, what do you expect? Fortunately even the best stuff goes on sale for Black Friday, and LG OLED TV is no exception. This week, you can score a 55-inch LG OLED TV for about $1,497 ($800 off) or a 65-inch model for $2297 ($1,000 Off).

Here are the links:

The B7 is LG's "entry level" OLED TV series this year, but the quality is anything but entry level. The set offers full 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840x2160 pixels), built-in Dolby Vision and HDR10 High Dynamic Range support, as well as passthrough support for Dolby Atmos immersive sound. It also includes LG's WebOS smart TV platform for easy access to your favorite streaming apps like VUDU, Amazon and Netflix.

LG's 2017 OLED line-up features the same OLED panel and processing from the entry-level B7 (pictured, here in 65-inch) all the way up to the W7 wallpaper TV series.

We've got the 65-inch C7 OLED in for review right now and we've been very impressed by its picture quality, both on standard 1080P Blu-rays and on 4K streaming content from Netflix and Amazon. But the set looks its best with UHD Blu-rays with Dolby Vision HDR. We've put the opening sequence of "Fate of the Furious" on for visitors and they've been blown away by the rich deep colors of the ocean, the classic cars, and of course the lifelike reproduction of skin tones (of which there is ample evidence in this opening montage). HDR 10-encoded Blu-rays like "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," "Star Trek: Beyond" and "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" also look amazing on the OLED set.

Unlike previous years, the OLED panel itself and the video processing are identical throughout the full 2017 model line. The only differences are in features, sound quality and cabinet design. This means you'll get the same picture quality from the B7 series as you get from the top of the line Signature Series W7 wallpaper TV. But the 65-inch W7 wallpaper series TV is over $7,000, which is outside most budgets. If you aren't planning to hook up an external sound system, then consider a small upgrade to the C7 series. These offer similar styling to the B7, but improved sound quality and built-in Dolby Atmos decoding.

C7 series OLED TVs:

If you're looking for something a little larger, the massive 77-inch G Series OLED is also on sale this week, for under $10,000 ($3,000 off).

But whichever you choose, you'll be kicking back and enjoying movies and TV shows at home in ultimate quality. Amazon and LG haven't disclosed when the sale will end, but we'd recommend ordering now while they have stock on hand.
