Big in Japan: Sharp's Latest 52-inch and 65-inch LCD HDTVs: LC-65XS1, LC-52XS1
We're Big in Japan
Later this month, Sharp will begin shipping the latest models in their XS (eXtra Slim) line of LCD TVs in both a 52-inch (LC-52XS1) and 65-inch (LC-65XS1) size. Featuring a panel depth of only 2.28 cm (0.9 inches) at its shallowest point, the units virtually float on the wall. With RGB LED backlighting, the new televisions feature Sharp's MegaASV (mega-contrast Advanced Super View) technology which improves contrast significantly over previous generations of Sharp's AQUOS line of liquid crystal televisions.
In addition to size, power consumption is also down, with the new models approximately 26% more efficient than the previous year's same-sized models. Reaping the benefits of their partnership with Pioneer, the new sets feature improved sound quality in the form of a 2.1-channel three-way five-speaker system discretely packed into a slim integrated sound bar which complements the design of the flat panel television itself.
Pricing has not yet been determined, nor has a US rollout date been announced, but models will be available in limited quantities in Japan beginning Octoer 15th. Initial monthly production will be 1,000 units per month for the 65-inch model and 1,500 models per month for the 52-inch model.
