Leading Home Theater Web Site to Give Away Blu-ray Movies Every Day in May

New York, NY - April 29, 2011 - Popular home theater and movie review web site, Big Picture Big Sound is teaming up with top Hollywood studios, entertainment and electronics companies to launch the "Blu-ray a Day in May Giveaway."  Each day in May, the publication will give away a different movie, TV or concert title on Blu-ray Disc, with multiple prizes per day.  As a grand prize, on May 31 the site will give away a high performance network streaming Blu-ray 3D player courtesy of Panasonic along with a collection of Blu-ray Discs. To enter, visit Big Picture Big Sound's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bigpicturebigsound and fill out the entry form.

"We want to make our fans and Web site visitors aware of our presence on Facebook, as this is a great place to stay connected with Big Picture Big Sound's experts and critics, and keep up with the latest movie reviews, home theater and Blu-ray news and reviews," says the site's Editor-in-Chief and co-founder, Chris Boylan. "And a month-long Blu-ray giveaway seemed like a great way to do this."  Oscar-winning new release films such as 127 Hours and Black Swan from Twentieth Century Fox and outstanding catalog titles such as Paramount's The Ten Commandments and Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles are among the prizes in the giveaway.  The total value of prizes being offered exceeds $2,500.

Blu-ray Disc, with its high definition image and sound, represents a leap forward in audio and video quality with up to six times the detail of a standard DVD. These improvements become more noticeable as the picture size grows at home.  "DVDs look and sound fine when you're watching them on a 27-inch TV, but blow them up on a 55-inch flat panel HDTV or a 100-inch projection screen and you start to notice their limitations," said Boylan.  "And that's where Blu-ray Disc comes in."  Blu-ray also offers studios the ability to include interactive, web-based bonus features and content that simply weren't possible with DVD.

Prizes in the Blu-ray a Day in May Giveaway include over 75 Blu-ray Discs and a WiFi-enabled Blu-ray 3D player from Panasonic.

In addition to the studio prizes, Dolby Laboratories stepped up as a sponsor of the event.  "For the first time ever Home Theater enthusiasts have access to high definition picture and sound that expands believability... the 'you are there' aspect of the performance captured on Blu-ray disc. Dolby TrueHD allows anyone the ability to hear -- in their home theater -- unprecedented audio with full resolution lossless soundtracks that is identical to what was captured on the soundstage, the concert hall or the mixing room," said Craig Eggers, Senior Manager of Consumer Electronics Partner Marketing, Dolby Laboratories, adding, "we are delighted to partner with Big Picture Big Sound to promote the benefits of lossless, multichannel surround sound in Blu-ray."

Dolby is providing copies of the Blu-ray 3D Disc of the "Goldberg Variations Acoustica" from AIX Records as a prize in the promotion.  This live 3D music video release features jazz interpretations of Bach's music, with stage and audience mixes of a live performance presented in fully lossless Dolby True HD 5.1 surround. One winner per day in May will also take home this highly rated Blu-ray title.  The grand prize, a Panasonic Blu-ray 3D Player (model DMP-BDT210) with a sampling of Blu-ray movies, offers not only best-in-class audio and video performance on Blu-ray Disc, but also upconversion of standard definition DVDs to full HD 1080p resolution.  This allows movie lovers to make the most of their existing DVD collections.

"Panasonic has blazed a trail in Blu-ray technology since the format's inception," said Richard Simone, Director, Panasonic, Entertainment Group. "Our latest generation players, such as the DMP-BDT210 exploit the full audio and video potential of the Blu-ray format in capturing a true theater quality experience at home."  The Panasonic player also includes built-in wireless networking with streaming of content from sources such as Netflix, Amazon, Pandora, CinemaNow, Vudu and YouTube.  It even includes Skype video calling (with optional camera) which turns your existing television into a huge screen internet video phone, complete with video voice mail.

The Blu-ray a Day in May Giveaway will be live until the end of May, with daily prize drawings from May 1 to May 30 and the grand prize drawing on May 31.  Residents of the U.S. and Canada, 18 or older are eligible to win.  Visit Big Picture Big Sound's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bigpicturebigsound to enter.
