Best Buy Bundles Samsung Galaxy Tab with Select 3D TVs

By Rachel Cericola

We obviously love the big picture that an HDTV delivers (did you happen to catch the name of this website?). However, we wouldn't exactly shy away from a little picture, either -- especially when it's free.

Best Buy just announced a weeklong promotion, where you can score a free Samsung Galaxy Tab with the purchase of a select Samsung 3D TV. The promotion will start this Sunday, August 21, 2011, and will last through Saturday, August 27.

As part of Best Buy's Perfect Match Promise promotion, customers will receive the 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 when they purchase one of two HDTVs. The Android-based tablet features 16GB of internal memory, built-in Wi-Fi, two digital cameras, GPS, and an endless amount of entertainment via the Android Market. Use the tablet as a sidekick to your TV viewing, on the rare occasion that the TV is actually off, or even as a remote for that very same TV, via Samsung's Remote app. If you want to find a few other ways to use this tablet, check out what our own Enid Burns had to say in her Samsung Galaxy Tab review. She couldn't get enough of it!

Whatever way you use it, it's a nice freebie, especially since it carries a $499.99 MSRP. It's also a hot commodity -- literally, in some areas. According to Tech Crunch, Apple has been pushing for a ban on the device in Europe, citing patent infringement. For now, it seems that the ban has been partially suspended, although Apple has not dropped the fight just yet.

But while it might be difficult right now to sell one in Europe it doesn't prevent Samsung from giving them away like candy over here.  So pick up one of these 3D-enabled big screen LED TV sets and enjoy all the entertainment goodness on both the small and large screens.

At $1499.99, there's the Samsung 46-inch LED 1080p Smart 3D HDTV (model UN46D6900W). For $1999.99, you can upgrade to the 55-inch UN55D6900 Class LED 1080p Smart 3D HDTV. One perk on that 55-incher (besides the larger size) is another freebie. If you decide to go big, you will also go home with the Samsung Megamind 3D Starter Kit. This package typically retails for $349.99, and includes two pairs of SSG-3100GB active 3D glasses, the entire Shrek collection on Blu-ray 3D, and a mail-in certificate for Megamind on Blu-ray 3D.

Both 3D TVs feature Samsung's Micro Dimming Technology for better contrast and black levels and the 3D HyperReal Engine, which can convert 2D content into 3D. Other features include a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth blur-free motion resproduction, Samsung's Ultra Clear Panel, three USB ports and four HDMI inputs.

There's also a crazy amount of ways that this HDTV can enhance your everyday viewing experience. First up is Smart Hub, which provides both movie and app recommendations, as well as a spot where you can search across all of Samsung's Smart TV features. There's also a dedicated web browser, so you can check email, scores, headlines, and watch videos. If you'd prefer to do that through an app, there are tons to choose from, with services being added on a regular basis. Just a few of the current apps available are Netflix, Twitter, Hulu Plus, Skype, and Explore 3D -- which offers a taste of 3D trailers, clips and other 3D content.

To make that viewing experience even more convenient, both sets come with Samsung's QWERTY remote control. This features a multidirectional QWERTY keyboard with LCD screen and shortcut keys to your favorite SmartTV features, all in a compact remote.  It uses Bluetooth RF to communicate with the TV so you won't have to worry about pointing it in a particular direction for it to work.

If you can't make a purchase decision before the week is up, you'll miss your window for that free tablet. Once this deal is done, Best Buy will resume its regular bundle offer, which includes a free Samsung BD-D5500 Blu-ray 3D player and the Megamind Starter Kit, with the purchase of either TV.  Still not a bad deal but not as hot as a free Android-based tablet.

Whenever you buy, both sets should be part of Best Buy's Perfect Match Promise (check the fine print, please). That means that you can get a refund within 30 days of purchase, as well as free delivery on TVs $899 and up and no interest on 3-year special financing. One other nifty perk is the 60-day price drop promise. If they drop the price on your purchase within 60 days, Best Buy will refund you the difference.
