BenQ EP5920 1080p Projector Gets High Marks For a Low Price (Under $900)

By Enid Burns

While the price of flat panel TVs continues to fall, one category where you might still experience sticker shock is DLP projectors. BenQ just released the EP5920 DLP Projector for a suggested price of $899. There are less expensive projectors on the market, but the new BenQ model offers full HD 1080p resolution, which is difficult to touch in this price range.

Packed into the projector is a decent feature set. The EP5920 offers full HD 1080p resolution and high brightness of 1800 ANSI lumens. The DLP projector has a 4500:1 contrast ratio and a six-segment color wheel. The projector is rated for 5,000 hours of lamp life and color-decay-free DLP technology.

BenQ offers a number of inputs and connectivity options on the new EP5920 DLP projector. The unit includes dual HDMI, D-sub, composite, S-video, component RCA, audio in/out mini jack, USB, and RS-232. The projector has a built-in 10 watt speaker to provide sound, though you might want to add a surround sound set-up in a permanent home theater setting.

The BenQ EP5920 DLP projector earned a "highly rated" designation in a recent review on Projector Central. The projector received a five-star rating for value, four stars for performance and four and a half stars for features and ease of use.

"The EP5920 is a sold product from BenQ and a good addition to the increasingly large ranks of home entertainment projectors," said Bill Livolsi, editor at Projector Central. "With two HDMI ports and a carrying case included, the EP5920 is a great portable entertainment projector, perfect for bringing to a friend's house or just setting up in your living room. As a general-purpose projector for home entertainment and games, the EP5920 can really shine."

The price point was important to reach for BenQ. "We've introduced the EP5920 for users looking for a true cinematic experience in their home without breaking the bank," said Lars Yoder, president at BenQ America Corp.
